Fumigation Requirements

To manage the risk of Brown Marmorated Stink Bugs (BMSB) from entering New Zealand, the Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) has revised mandatory pre-shipment fumigation requirements for break-bulk and containerised sea freight imports.

Issued on the 9th August, the list of countries that need to meet these requirements has changed to include the following.

  • Bulgaria
  • France
  • Georgia
  • Germany
  • Greece
  • Hungary
  • Italy
  • Liechtenstein
  • Romania
  • Russia
  • Serbia
  • Slovenia
  • Spain
  • Switzerland
  • USA

BMSB Season

These requirements will exist throughout the BMSB risk season, from the 1st September 2018 to 30th April 2019. Fumigation is required for all new and used vehicles, vessels, machinery and equipment.
