Notice to Public Tariff Increase

We are writing to advise that, effective from 1 Octobner 2017, the revised Public Tariff rates will be applied to all vessels and cargo handled at Napier Port. The new applicable tariff can be viewed on our website here.

New Zealand has had two significant earthquakes in less than a decade, severely damaging two ports. Now New Zealand ports are facing severe price shock from increased insurance.

With less than a weeks' notice, Napier Port's insurance premiums increased by 200% and our excess has almost doubled to $25M per claim. Unfortunately, like other businesses facing these hikes, Napier Port has no choice but to pass those costs onto its customers.

From October 1, Naiper Port will charge every shipper, both exporters and importers, an insurance levy of $0.50 a tonne - amounting to $6.25 per 20-foot equivalent container (TEU). Please see the table overleaf for how the insurance levy will be charged.

If you require any further information relating to the changes to the charges detail, please don't hesitate to contact the undersigned on (06) 8334 437 or email If you require a printed copy of the tariff please email
